Chef Jam Melchor Shares Healthy Cooking Tips and Recipes at Solingia

Millennials always say YOLO (You Only Live Once) when it comes to trying out new food adventures but it does not mean that you have to be careless with what you eat or prepare at your dining table. Healthy eating is one of the best ways to live longer and enjoy life to the fullest.

Chef Jam Melchor, owner of Healthy Eats Manila and a staunch advocate of healthy eating, will be this year’s first Pinoy chef to be invited by the University of Gastronomic Sciences to attend the prestigious Le Tavole Accademiche in Italy. It’s a food convention where 25 outstanding chefs around the world will feature their country’s finest cuisine.

“Preparing nutritious food in adequate portions is key to staying fit and healthy. You also have to use premium quality cookware that are food safe and durable,” said Chef Jam.

In a recent cooking demo held at Robinsons Magnolia dubbed “Solingia,” Chef Jam prepared three healthy and easy-to-prepare dishes using Carl Schmidt Sohn products.

For his first recipe, Chef Jam prepared a Crab Green Salad. Using a Carl Schmidt Sohn Tessin Knife and Peeler, he was able to peel and cut the vegetables easily and evenly. Chef Jam then mixed the dressing, tossed the vegetables and shredded crab meat and topped it with crushed Japanese rice crackers in under 10 minutes.

Chef Jam’s second dish was the Classic Bolognese. He cooked the pasta using a Carl Schmidt Sohn Lift and Pour Casserole which is made of premium and food safe stainless steel and less prone to leaching. When the pasta was done, Chef Jam easily drained the water from the casserole because it has side drain holes where you can pour out liquids easily without spilling the contents. After that, he cooked the bacon and meat, added the red sauce and spices, and finally mixed in the pasta.

Chef Jam’s final healthy dish was the Oriental Salmon Belly Steak. He combined ginger, garlic, lime juice, chili garlic sauce and cilantro for the marinade. He then cooked the marinated salmon belly steak using a Carl Schmidt Sohn Pro X Nonstick Frying Pan. The pan uses less oil which makes it a healthy cookware choice.
